Description
There are two living species of alligator, one found in China, and the other in the southeastern United States. The species hasnt undergone major changes in 8 million years; their first appearance on Earth was more than 29 million years before that.
American alligator was listed as an endangered species by the Endangered Species Act of 1973. Since then they have made a significant comeback. The Chinese alligator, however, is extremely endangered, with only a few dozen believed to be left in the wild.
